The Blackall-Tambo Regional Council is pleased to announce that the Department of Education and Training have awarded the tender for the construction of the new Blackall Childcare Centre facility to Fleetwood, a national supplier of modular buildings to the educational sector.
Concerns regarding budget overruns were alleviated during Mayor Barry Muir’s recent meeting with the Minister for Education and Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games, the Honorable Kate Jones, when the Minister pledged her full support for the project.
Mayor Muir said ‘It has been a long process and this last issue was just another hurdle we have managed to overcome. I can confidently say to residents of Blackall we will have a new Early Childhood Education Centre opening in 2016.’ ‘Long Day Care has been a twenty year goal for our Community and I can’t thank them enough for their patience’
Spokesperson for the Blackall Kindergarten, Mrs. Frances Harlow, was delighted with the announcement ‘We are very excited and really looking forward to the new Centre opening. Our families really appreciate all the work Council has undertaken to secure this service and it is a great relief that the project is moving forward again.’
In the upcoming weeks the Department will appoint a Service Provider. Community consultation around the transition process will begin immediately following this appointment to dovetail preparations to align with the construction goal for completion before the start of the 2016 school year.
